6 eggs
1 lb flour
6 drops anise oil (you can usually get this at health food stores)
1/2 lb butter, softened
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Turbinado sugar for sprinkling
Beat 5 of the eggs with the salt, add sugar and mix well. Sift together the flour and baking powder. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture. Add the anise oil and softened butter and mix well.
Knead the dough until it is smooth. Roll the dough into a loaf about 5 inches wide and 3/4 inch high. Brush with a beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Cut the loaf into 1 inch slices. Place the slices on a cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes at 350* or until light brown.
