The red pears are really great right now so this would be an excellent dessert to serve for Valentine’s Day!
6 firm pears
3 oz powdered sugar
4 maraschino cherries
1/4 lb almonds, toasted
1/4 tsp almond extract
1/2 c sherry or sweet marsala
Wash the pears, cut in half, & scoop out core. Chop the cherries very fine. Grind the almonds until fine and mix with the cherries, powdered sugar, and almond extract. Divide the almond mixture evenly between the pears and place in a baking dish. Pour the sherry over the pears and bake in a 350* oven until the pears are done, but not too soft. Serve hot or cool with some vanilla gelato.
